Six Missions of Those Who Follow Jesus
by Pastor Bob Dealey
As Jesus calls us to follow Him, there are six specific missions upon which we
are called to embark. As followers of Jesus, we are called to support God’s
mission with our time, our talents and our treasury.
God calls us to:
- Praise God (worship)
“Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the faithful.” (Psalm 149:1)
- Study God’s Word (learning)
“If you put these instructions before the brothers and sisters, you will be a
good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished on the words of the faith and of the sound
teaching that you have followed.” (I Timothy 6:6)
- Proclaim Christ (witness)
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you
will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 2:8)
- Help the Poor/Feed the Hungry (service)
“…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something
to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing,
I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” (Matthew 25:35-36)
- Protect the Earth (stewardship)
“The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it…” (Psalm 24:1)
- Extend God’s Kingdom/Work for Peace (fellowship)
“So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us;
we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” (II Corinthians 5:20)
